ABOUT SWEDEN

Sweden is well known for it's beautiful nature. More than half of the country consists of forest. You can enjoy Sweden in the winter months (december-april) to practice winter sports. You can even see the Northern Light in Swedish Lapland (if you can take the cold). But you can also go during the summer to go wildcamping. It is a fairly safe country and as long as you leave no litter and cause no nuisance, you won’t get into trouble with the locals. Watch our aftermovie above!

VÄRMLAND

Värmland is situated close to the border of Norway, but it is still in Sweden. It is a beautiful piece of nature. You can find a lot of forests, lakes and rivers in Värmland. It is a quiet place far away from all the chaos of daily life. Wild camping is allowed in Sweden and the water is so fresh and clean it is drinkable. This makes Värmland a place where you can forget the rest of the world for a little while. Just you, mother nature and nobody else.

What to do in Värmland

You can enjoy nature, go wild camping, and do survival in Värmland. How you do this, is completely up to you. You can rent a camper and cruise through the nicest little paths in the forests or build a raft and go on the river. We chose to use a canoe to paddle around the area. If you aren’t afraid of a little adventure, this is the way to go! You just bring some basic stuff like a tent, enough food, and a map of Värmland to survive for a week. The fun part of this is that you can decide for yourself where and when to stop. Searching for the nicest spot in the sun, a good rock, or an enchanting little island to camp on. If you aren’t that fit, it isn’t a problem at all. You can make the trip around Värmland with only 2 to 3 hours paddling a day. If the wind favors you, you won’t have to do anything at all ;)

Our recommendations

The Canoe Trip
We booked our trip with The Canoe Trip. They arranged a bus (from Utrecht, the Netherlands) to the basecamp in Värmland. It’s a long bus ride (20h), so be prepared. They also provided the canoe and a food pack for the entire week. There are different basecamps and routes to paddle, so you won’t paddle into other canoeists. So relaxing!

The weather
Be prepared for different types of weather. The weather in Sweden can change any minute. One day you can wear your swimwear, the other day you are curled up in multiple layers in your tent. Be sure to pack a good raincoat/suit and a sail to cover your stuff in the canoe with.
